Whether you’re heading to a backyard BBQ, picnicing at the beach or chillaxing in your own backyard, get your red, white and blue on with a few of these simple patriotic holiday recipes. They’re so quick and simple that I almost wouldn’t call them recipes, but you will get oohs and ahhhs when you serve them so go ahead and act like you slaved in the kitchen.
Red, white and blue rice krispy treats. Begin with the traditional back-of-the-box recipe, dividing the marshallow and butter mixture into 3 portions. Mix one portion with a few drops of red food coloring, another portion with a few drops of blue food coloring, and leave the third portion as is. Continue with the recipe by adding rice krispies to each portion. Press the red portion into a greasted pan first, then uncolored, then blue. Cut into squares. Photo credit: EdiTorial
Patriotic sugar cones. Add sprinkles before the ice cream with these festive DIY cones. Dip sugar cones into melted white chocolate, then roll in red, white and blue sprinkles. Via Noble Pig
Star spangled strawberries. Make patriotic red, white and blue chocolate-covered berries with the kids with this simple recipe from our sister site, Hip Mommies. Strawberries are easy for little hands to grasp and the lure of chocolate, even white chocolate, will likely be enough to peak their interest in the project.
Tri colored chips. Serve salsa or another dip with red, white and blue tortilla chips from Trader Jo’s or Whole Foods (I have seen them at both). Or create your own by mixing traditional yellow, blue corn and red hot tortilla chips. Photo Credit: Babble.
