Whether you're heading to a backyard BBQ, picnicing at the beach or chillaxing in your own backyard, get your red, white and blue on with a few of these simple patriotic holiday recipes. They're so quick and simple that I almost wouldn't call them recipes, but you will get oohs and ahhhs when you serve them so go ahead and act like you slaved in the kitchen. Red, white and blue rice krispy treats. Begin with the traditional back-of-the-box recipe, dividing the marshallow and butter mixture into 3 portions. Mix one portion with a few drops of red food coloring, another portion with a few drops of blue food coloring, and leave the third portion as is. Star spangled strawberries. Make patriotic red, white and blue chocolate-covered berries with the kids with this simple recipe from our sister site, Hip Mommies. Strawberries are easy for little hands to grasp and the lure of chocolate, even white chocolate, will likely be enough to peak their interest in the project.
