This Week In Review

This is the new weekly review of what I’m eating, reading, trying & loving to take better care of myself.

oat milk Eating: Oat milk. You already know how much I love eating oats, and now I'm drink them too. Oat milk is a dairy-free, plant-based milk alternative that is popping up in many local coffee shops in addition to almond and coconut milks. I like the rich, comforting taste. Oat-ly is the brand most coffee shops carry. I bought a container of Pacific oat milk last week and really liked it in my smoothies. Dry Brushing Trying: Dry bushing. It's an ancient ritual said to help clear toxins from the body by stimulating the lymphatic system to eliminate waste and is often recommended as part of a detox program. I've had a dry brush (like this one) sitting pretty in my bathroom for over a year. Up until this week I had used it exactly 2 times. Inspired by Lee From America's recent 'gram post about her dry brushing daily ritual I decided to pick up my dry brush and start using it. I'm on day 4 of dry brushing, which I do before or after I take a shower. I've noticed I'm more energized after I dry brush (it gets circulation going) and my skin is softer (it exfoliates the skin and lotion can be absorbed better). It takes me less than 3 minutes. I start at my feet and work my way up, brushing in upward stroked twice on each body part. Reading: Dr. Elena Klimenko's mini guide to managing seasonal allergies because they say Spring will finally be coming and for me, Spring means allergies. Dr. Klimenko is a functional/integrative MD (also a mom on the Wellness Committee with me at Scarlett's school!), and is incredibly knowledgable about holistic treatments. She lists some great info in this article about foods that naturally combat seasonal allergies. I'll be adding even more lemon water and leafy greens on the daily to prepare. Our Harvest Online Farmer's Market Loving: Our Harvest, New York City's online farmer's market. I love me a farmer's market but sometimes I can't get there. Luckily there's backup. Our Harvest has lot of amazing local produce, meats and products from many of my favorite local growers and they deliver. Our Harvest is also now carrying Stylish Spoon's baked goods!!! Some of my other favorites available on Our Harvest are: Ardith Mae Farm goat cheeses (the honey lavender chevre and goat feta are both in my regular rotation), Kriemhild Dairy Farms grass-fed butter, watermelon radishes (so pretty shaved in salads), rainbow carrots (love them roasted!) and sunflower shoots (to add plant-based protein and a bit of nuttiness to salads). Our Harvest delivers to Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island and Queens. Get 25% off your first Our Harvest order with code STYLISH.
